Becky Thatcher - Endangered Insect Collection
This video was the first project where I had been elevated beyond graphic design or animation to head of video production. I handled shot lists, scripting, coordinating with actors, sound, animation, editing and more. With a source material so close to my heart, it felt easy to get passionate about Becky Thatcher and the work she created. This video was created with the intent to be hosted on their website as well as part of a national press release. So far, Becky Thatcher's Endangered Insect Collection has been picked up by several radio and TV news stations from Kalamazoo and Detroit.
Family Tree
One of the first ever times I used a camera with intent to create a professional quality video - this exercise was to get used to using a DSLR camera. Limited by the things I could shoot from my urban apartment in late fall to winter, I found myself fixated on the squirrels. I am used to living in heavily forested areas or on farms but had moved to the city for college. With the lack of wildlife available, squirrels were the perfect subject and I found myself plagued by the poetry my sister was writing. I had her put her own voice to her poetry and I melded the visuals I had access to with the audio, creating for me, a very emotional short video about identity as a mixed heritage Indian woman living in America.
Visitors Media - Floral Video Test
In preparation for a heavily floral shoot coming up, I was given a company DSLR camera and other equipment and told to create a short video showcasing what I could do with the materials. Filming gardens and other street accessible settings I walked around the block, shooting primarily flowers and the insects that pollinate them. While this project had no inherent final goals, I focused alot on technical composition and storytelling.
Right Brain Brewery - Interviews with Beer Brands
While I didn't shoot most of the video footage itself, I was key in helping develop this idea of a brew master interviewing his beer brands amd keyed it on fun ways for the two to interact in the movie magic that is video & animation.
